“I am a visual artist working in soft pastels. I enjoy flipping my perspective on life. I find that looking very closely or at a different angle helps me to see the world with fresh eyes. I notice beauty in things that I might have passed over before. This brings me back to myself and in so doing, brings me into communion with the world and life around me. I love chaos jutted up against structure and texture that culminates in smooth waves. I love to capture the calm of a single moment found in nature or the abstraction of a frenetic thought. My art is about life and all the messy intricacies that make it worth living.”
– Toni Lowenthal
In 2018 Toni Lowenthal took her first painting class, studying acrylics under Alfred Shull and Joe Ciaccio. After being inspired in a pastel class with Sheri Ramsey she discovered Tracey Maras’ and Rita Williams’ group meeting at Tranquility Art Studios and started her focus on pastels.
Toni’s work has been exhibited in the Edward’s Place Fine Art show, The Springfield Art Association Collective, The Pharmacy Gallery, and The David Strawn Art Gallery. Toni has also won an Honorable Mention and First Place at the Illinois Prairie Pastel Society art shows.
