Opening Reception and Pop-Up
Perspectives Art Gallery is thrilled to welcome our newest Member Artist — Kevin Veara! Join us for an opening reception and artist talk February 15th from 12-5pm. Kevin will be in house to share with us his unique experience stewarding his land along the Sangamon and how it has contributed to shaping his work. His talk begins at 2pm!
About Kevin Veara:
Kevin’s work brings attention to often-overlooked species, such as sparrows and freshwater mussels, revealing their vital roles in ecosystems and their inherent beauty. His paintings, created with a deep reverence for the natural world, explore themes of biodiversity, conservation, and the interconnectedness of life. Living on the south fork of the Sangamon River, Veara combines his artistic practice with environmental stewardship, restoring native habitats and studying local wildlife. His paintings are more than art; they are a call to recognize and cherish the natural world.
“This show is about finding beauty in the overlooked,” Veara shares. “Sparrows and mussels may seem ordinary at first glance, but they are extraordinary in their complexity and importance. I hope my work inspires viewers to pause, observe, and connect with their surroundings.”
His work is included in several significant collections, including the Illinois State Museum, Friends of the Sangamon Valley, and the Illinois Audubon Society, underscoring his contributions to conservation and environmental education.
